The short answer
- A virtual office gives the company a physical street address in the United States and handles the mail sent to it. It does not replace a registered agent.
- U.S. banks must collect a physical address for a company customer: a principal place of business, local office or other physical location. A post office box does not meet that rule.
- The IRS writes to the address it has on file. A change of address or of responsible party is reported on Form 8822-B, within 60 days for a responsible party.
- Whether a bank accepts a virtual address depends on the bank's own policy: ask before you apply.
- At MyUSAService, a physical address in Miami with mail management costs $39 per month (price as of September 2026).

A U.S. company run from abroad still needs a U.S. address: for the bank, for the IRS, for suppliers and for customers who want to know where they are buying from. A virtual office is the usual answer. It works well for some needs and not at all for others, so it helps to know which is which.
What a virtual office is
A virtual office gives your company a physical street address in the United States and manages the mail that arrives there: receiving it, scanning it and forwarding it to you. It does not give you a desk or staff. It gives you an address, a mail process and, with some providers, extra services.
What a virtual office does not replace
The registered agent. State law requires every LLC to keep a registered agent with a physical address in the state, available to receive legal papers. In Florida and Delaware, that address must be identical to the registered office of the company. A virtual office in another state or city does not fill this role. See our guide on choosing a registered agent.
The bank’s verification. A virtual address helps you meet the address requirement. It does not remove the bank’s other checks on your identity, your owners and your activity.
Where the address is used
- The bank. U.S. banks must collect a physical address for a company customer, described in the federal rule as a principal place of business, local office or other physical location. A post office box does not meet it. Our guide on opening a U.S. business bank account explains the process.
- The IRS. The IRS sends notices to the address it has on file. To change the address or the responsible party of a business, use Form 8822-B. A change of responsible party must be reported within 60 days.
- The state. The company’s address appears in state records and on annual reports.
- Payment platforms. Platforms like Stripe and PayPal check that the company details match across documents. See why fintech platforms reject accounts.
- Customers and suppliers. Invoices, returns and contracts look more credible with a U.S. address.
Keep the address consistent
Use the same address, in the same format, everywhere: formation documents, EIN records, bank applications, payment platforms, website and invoices. A different address on two documents is one of the most common causes of delays in bank and platform verification.
What to check before choosing a provider
- Whether the address is a real street address, not a mailbox that a bank rejects.
- What is included in the monthly price: mail scanning, forwarding, notifications.
- How fast you are notified when official mail arrives.
- Whether the provider will confirm the address in writing for your bank.
- What happens to mail and to your address if you cancel.
Ask your bank whether it accepts a virtual address before you rely on it: the answer depends on each bank’s policy.

Frequently asked questions
Can a virtual office be my registered agent?
Not by itself. The registered agent is a separate legal role, with its own requirements in each state.
Will a bank accept a virtual office address?
It depends on the bank. Banks must collect a physical address, and a post office box does not qualify. Ask your bank about virtual addresses before applying.
Can I use my home address abroad for my U.S. company?
Banks generally expect the company’s own physical location, and the registered office must be in the state of formation. Many non-resident owners use a U.S. address service for these reasons.
Do I need a virtual office if I have a registered agent?
They cover different needs. The registered agent receives legal papers. A virtual office gives the company a business address and handles ordinary mail.
How much does a virtual office cost at MyUSAService?
$39 per month for a Miami address with mail management, at September 2026 prices.
